Description
Over the past decade, annual road traffic fatalities have decreased slightly to 1.19 million, which is a 5%
reduction since 2010. Although this indicates progress, the decline in road deaths is far from meeting the
SDG 3.6 target of reducing road deaths by 50%. According to the WHO 2023 Global Status Report on Road
Safety (GSR), ten countries that widely adopted and implemented road safety laws, regulations, policies,
plans, and standards, aligned with UN legal instruments and best practice, have reported a 50% reduction
in road deaths. This proves that meeting road fatality-reduction targets is possible.
