Description

EMT is currently involved in two projects on autonomous vehicles. The first one, called SHOW, from "SHared automation Operating models for Worldwide adoption", it is a European project belonging to the H2020 programme, coordinated by UITP and with the participation of top-level partners (companies, associations, etc.), this is the largest initiative on autonomous vehicles financed to date by the European Commission. EMT Madrid participates as a partner leading the so-called "Mega Site Madrid" in the framework of which autonomous bus solutions are being tested in two scenarios to investigate the potential of these technologies. The second project in which EMT Madrid is currently involved is called AUGMENTED CCAM, from "Augmenting and Evaluating the Physical and Digital Infrastructure for CCAM deployment"; Project of the Horizon Europe programme. It started on 1 September 2022 and will last 40 months. Together with the companies ETRA and TECNALIA, and with a letter of support from Madrid City Council, the project aims to develop services for autonomous vehicles and demonstrating V2X (vehicle-infrastructure) and V2V (vehicle-vehicle) communication functionalities. Specifically, it aims to develop a proximity warning service for emergency vehicles and a proximity warning service for vulnerable users (pedestrian, bicycle, motorbike) to be tested in EMT Madrid autonomous buses. The presentation will explain all these initiatives and the achievemts so far, including the challenges and the business model behind. In particular EMT Madrid pilot in SHOW is one of the few pilots that does not rely on EasyMile or Navya shuttles, with all that entails in terms of vehicle adaptation, and the only one using a 12 m bus and two minibuses. It is also the only one to have a publicly owned public transport operator as a partner, and therefore all that this implies in terms of testing a service in real conditions by "someone" who is already providing a public transport service, and also the only one that has really started from scratch by using a conventional vehicle, since many cities already had some initiatives in place. It is also the The only one that takes place in a big capital city.
