Vulnerable road users (bystanders, cyclists, motorcylists etc…) are prone to a high risk of injury in the event of vehicular collision in our car-dominated road space: recent statistics on accidents and injuries unfortunately confirm this area of concern. With a growing number of users turning to soft mobility, road authorities must adapt even more their road safety planning to protect those that need it the most. Considering tools and solutions available to make the best decisions when it comes to vulnerable safety planning, we will focus on the potential of data as a true gamechanger to help identify and assess risky zones involving VRU, and shift to a proactive approach in road management. Our contributors will help shed light with concrete use cases, outlining what could be the future of vulnerable road planning and how thanks to data, they can get closer to their Vision Zero objectives.
